Just a heads up for anyone baffled by CodeIgniter’s encryption library not transferring well from one host to another (e.g. development to production), it’s possible one of the hosts doesn’t have the MCrypt library installed. CI allows encryption with or without MCrypt, but the results aren’t compatible with each other.

This has shown up twice for me in the past few weeks, so it can’t be as uncommon as it might seem. Either make sure both hosts have MCrypt, or neither do.
