Diving into Python Apr. 9 at 11:50 am

I’ve had it in the back of my mind to expand my programming language abilities for a while now, and I was procrastinating on a decision between Ruby and Python. I still consider myself a designer at heart, but 10 years of developing websites as a self-taught programmer (scripter?) of PHP has me still clutching tightly to my renaissance ways of wearing many hats and always looking for new challenges.

With yesterday’s announcement from Google for App Engine, and it’s initial support for Python, I’ve taken a step closer in that direction. The online book Dive into Python feels like a great introduction, but I need to actually get my feet wet writing something useful to know if Python is a good fit for me.

I guess what initiated this post was the feeling I got reading through a few chapters that I actually get this, and worrying if that means I’ve taken a step too far away from the interface into the back-end. It scared me enough that I turned off my computer and opened a sketch book to work out some wireframes.
